Trick or Treatin' Miami Style

Waking up after a Saturday filled with college football and tailgating...the Halloween vibes were swirling in the air. And there is no better place to spend Halloween in Florida than South Beach. So we packed up and left Orlando and headed for South Beach to live life like the kids from the Shore. The hotel was right in the heart of South Beach and it was equipped with a rooftop pool, and spectacular views of both the skyline, beach, and nightlife shenanigans.

Finishing up a few cocktails poolside we headed out to the streets. A few blocks up from the hotel is Lincoln Road which is home to an outdoor mall - featuring designer brands, many restaurants and bars, and on this night 1,000's of people in costume. The streets were closed down and vendors were selling drinks on the streets; all of the bars had their doors open with various genres of music billowing from within. The costumes ranged from the very basic (bananas and girls with cat ears) to complex (a complete transformer [went from car to person] and an Iron Man with light-up hands and chest). There were original costumes (the complete cast of Street Fighter and a man dressed as expensive chocolate [see picture]) to very common (Jersey Shore and Dead Mause). After the streets began to empty out and everyone headed off to night clubs...I walked around the streets and explored a little bit. I finally wandered into a bar close to the beach and enjoyed the company of the crowd. Finally I retired to the hotel at around 5 am when the bars close down.

I bounced around Southern Florida the rest of the week and experienced many new things. One was a republican party on election day celebrating the election of Marco Rubio at a crab shack. While there I was tried crab for the first time. The next day I drove through the hood of Miami and went a sketchy drive-thru. The Popeye's by the Miami Airport had a cage around the window - where the food was slid through at a unique angle. All sorts of food experiences while in South Florida.
